How to Change Your Canon PIXMA MX920 Ink Cartridges


  1. Plug-in your Canon Pixma MX920 printer to a power supply via its Power chord and then press the Power button to turn on the device.

  2. Gently lift the printer’s Top Cover, followed by the Ink Cartridge Cover. This action will set off the Print Head to the proper position for cartridge replacement.

  3. Take out the Empty Ink Cartridge, whose Light Indicator  is flashing fast. Push the tab at the front of the Cartridge to release it and then lift the ink tank out from its slot.

  4. Prepare the New Cartridge by taking it out from its packaging. Next, remove the plastic sheet and Orange cap.

  5. Install the New Cartridge. Slide in the front end of the Cartridge into the Print Head at a slanting position. Press the Cartridge down until it locks into place. See to it that the Ink Lamp lights up Red to confirm successful installation.

  6. Repeat the same steps for each other Colors.

  7. Gently close the Ink Cover, followed by the Top Cover, and wait for your printer to initialize.

  1. What ink does Canon MX920 use?

    The Canon Pixma MX920 uses a black PGI-250 ink cartridge and individual color CLI-251 ink cartridges (Black, Magenta, Cyan, and Yellow). The black PGI-250 ink can print up to 300 pages while the CLI-251 can print up to 1,645 for Black, 350 for Cyan, 337 for Magenta, and 310 for Yellow.

    All Canon PGI-250 and CLI-251 colors are also available in high yield, XL cartridge sizes, which have more ink and can thus print more pages. The high yield PGI-250XL can print up to 500 pages while the high yield CLI-251XL can print up to 5,000 pages in black, 705 in Cyan, 690 pages in Magenta, and 675 in Yellow. High yield PGI-250XL and CLI-251XL cartridges can also print a lower cost per page.

    Finally, there’s also an extra high yield PGI-255XXL black ink cartridge that has even more ink and can print even more pages. The PGI-255 XXL black can print up to 800 pages and print with the lowest cost per page.


  2. How do I reset my canon MX920 ink cartridge?

    To reset your Canon MX920 ink cartridge, follow these procedures:

    1. Be sure to turn your Canon Printer off while resetting.

    2. Hold the Stop button at the same time you press the Power button.

    3. Don’t release either of the buttons until the machine shutdowns.

    4. Release your hold after a few seconds, but keep pressing on the Power button.

    5. Press the Stop button a couple more times.

    6. Wait for 30 seconds - the printer to display the O symbol.

    7. Press the Stop button four times before touching the Power button two times.

    8. Press the Power button again – the printer should be reset.

    9. Reset the ink cartridge. Disconnect the printer’s power cable first.

    10. While opening the cartridge door, thoroughly press the power button.

    11. Connect the power cables again and close the cartridge door.

    12. The cartridge should be reset.
